Introduction
The 2012/13 has commenced and we have set our programme for 2012. You will find the application form and fixture list on the appropriate web pages. We hope to have arranged a good mix of venues providing lakes with a decent head of silver fish so that the matches will be more than just carp catches. Some changes may be necessary to the rivers and winter venues where we are subject to third party events and inclement weather.
If you just love going fishing with a group of mates then our club could be just
what you are looking for. Warwick AS has geared itself to the modern angler who has
little spare time but wants to go fishing on a Sunday.
For anglers wanting specimen
fishing there are plenty of large successful clubs in our area but membership fees
can be expensive. We have no club waters so our fees (see membership) are set to
just cover administration and trophies. There is no burden of attending meetings
and working parties. The matches are extremely friendly and are based on commercial
lakes, rivers and canals. So in the current financial climate your fishing is on
a pay as you go basis. With most clubs using commercial fisheries for their matches
the individual angler cannot find a lake to fish on a Sunday. However, we have several
lakes booked (see fixtures) giving you the opportunity of fishing, perhaps somewhere
different, without the hassle of either phoning around or turning up or an off chance
of getting a peg. At present our membership is just over 20 and we would very much
like to increase this number to ensure the viability of the club and provide greater
flexibility when booking waters for our outings.
Present Day
The Society is affiliated to the London Anglers’ Association, providing fishing on
many waters around London and the Lee Anglers’ Association which has 23 miles of
the Lee Navigation. Through the club you can obtain their tickets at a lower price
than individual members. For the more competitive minded the London Anglers ‘ Association
runs several matches doing the year which the club hopes to continue in supporting.
Our outings are run in an extremely friendly environment and the atmosphere among
members is good with plenty of banter. The club has a short Spring programme of three
matches and then from mid June to mid December the main championship includes 13
matches (see 2012 Competitions). Ten (3 for the Spring matches) commercial waters
have been booked and the remainder of the matches will be held on rivers and the
Grand Union Canal. Travelling to the venue is by private cars as, I am afraid, there
is no alternatives. The lake matches are pegged down while the rivers and canals
are on a walk off basis. All matches are started by either drawing for your peg or
order of walk off. Most lake matches are fished between 10.00 a.m. and 4.00 p.m.
The rivers and canals usually end around 3 or 3.30 p.m. As for most clubs the old
silver trophies are no longer awarded at the end of the season as members do not
want the responsibility of insuring them. However, every winner is presented with
a non-
At each outing a newsletter is handed out, to all those present, providing any recent news, all results from the previous outing, the championship table, leaders in the various competitions and information relating to future outings. On this site they can be found in the notices section which is a sub of ‘homepage’.
There are rules (see under sub membership) and, to you, they may seem a little lengthy
but that is because they are never needed and therefore not revised. The running
of the club is decided by a committee who meet when necessary which is usually just
once a year. If required an Annual General or Ex-
Lastly, on a conservation note the society is a member of the Angling Trust and the Lee Valley Anglers’ Consultative Association.
Below you will find a search facility of any word on the site but excluding those documents that are available by ‘pdf’ download.
CORMORANT WATCH -
Anglers are the eyes and ears of our fisheries and we
are all very much aware of the serious decline in our
silver fish stocks. Our angling bodies have pressurised
the Minister to review the extent of cormorant predation.
We need your evidence of these birds on our fisheries
anywhere in the UK so please report your sightings to a new
web-
